The next major job that will be undertaken by the Chance Restoration team will be the removal of the starboard beam shelf the short side deck beams and the aft deck beams.
The first part of this job will involve removing all the teak laid deck along the starboard side deck and then across the aft deck and along the port side to expose the aft deck beams, so that they can be removed and new deck beams made to replace the old damaged beams which had been cut off when the starboard side deck beam was replaced at sometime in the past. The deck beams along the starboard side deck will have to be renewed as well as they had the same treatment as the aft deck beams, Cut off short and not refixed to the new beam shelf when the beam shelf was replaced. Also along the starboard side the tie rods that connect the beam shelf to the carlin were cut through and not remade and new tie rods fitted to connect the parts of the hull structure together. if this job had been done correctly we would not be facing this problem now.
At the same time as the beam shelf is being sorted the last frame in the starboard side will have to be remade and fitted. Once this is done the framework for the transom can be made up and once the starboard side as been brought back into its correct shape and position then the transom can be reskinned in the way it was originally made up.
While we have not had the time to work on Chance herself, we have been busy working on some of her smaller items such as her many doors which she has in her interior. some have not been able to be saved, other needing just a bit of TLC to get them back in good working order and ready to go back in the interior when the hull is repair and Chance is watertight from below the waterline and above when the deck are sorted out as well as her deck hatches.
Because of the amount of work involved in the restoration of Chance we are looking for volunteers to help us with the restoration. in some cases just to do a bit of painting and varnishing and in other cases help fit ribs and frames under the direction of Simon the master boatbuilder in charge of the project. Whatever, your skills you are welcome to come along as lend a hand for a few hours.
Now Chance is back in Essex and near to our own workshop the major parts of the restoration can begin in earnest and with the help of friends and family and hopefully with volunteers we will get her back where she belongs once more.
Now Chance is back down in Essex at Walton on the Naze. There a lot of jobs that have to be done off the boat, such as restoring this diesel cooker back to working order with a few parts from the original manufactures in Canada and this will be able to be return to the boat when iot is time reinstall it back in the rebuild galley area of the boat. Other items such as the two Baby Blakes toilets. One that came with Chance when we got her and another Baby Blake toilet which we were able to get from a person who wish it to go to a good home and help us with our restoration of Chance.
So at the moment it is a time to get work done in J-Star Marine Services workshop and once these items are done then take them back to Chance to refit them in place.
